See all cities that have hosted the Olympic Games

This map shows all cities that have hosted Summer Olympics (yellow) and Winter Olympics (blue) since the first modern Olympic Games in 1896. Click on the map to see the number of nations, athletes, disciplines and the most winning nation at each of the Olympics.

The Winter and Summer Olympic Games were held in the same years until 1992. After that the Summer and Winter Games have been held in separate four-year cycles so there are Olympic Games in all even-numbered years.

Several cities have hosted multiple Olympics, including Athens, Paris, Los Angeles, Lake Placid, Innsbruck and St. Moritz. In 2012 London became the first city to host the Olympics a third time.

The selection of a city as a host for the Olympic Games is a highly competitive process managed by the International Olympic Committee (IOC). The next Winter Olympics is held in Pyeongchang, South Korea in 2018. Tokyo is hosting the 2020 Summer Olympics.
